Book Review SitesIf you’ve ever been stuck with a real snoozer of a book during a flight, you understand the worth of a good book review site.

While taste is always subjective, these sites will increase the odds that you’ll find an engrossing book. Even better, browsing through review sites is a terrific way to find new authors that you might have never come across in a bookstore and to get early notice of new titles from your favorite writers.

GoodReads is a bit different from traditional book review sites. Visitors can sign up for free accounts that allow them to keep track of what they have read and are currently reading, build lists of books they’d like to read in the future and find recommendations based on what they’ve enjoyed before. You can also find out what your friends are reading and join online book clubs and writing groups.

Kirkus Reviews has an old and established reputation for providing high quality reviews of books. Every month they review around 500 books in every genre. You can search for reviews by title or author or browse through the new lists of books they compile each month.

BookPage is another highly regarded book review site that is distributed both in print and online. Along with reviews, visitors to the site can also read author interviews including a series of charming handwritten questionnaires from some of the best children’s book illustrators.

How do you pick what’s next on your to-read list?

Dear Sirs,

I am writing to let you know that I have written an echatologically
based novel of social criticism entitled “The Enemy We Need”. It
describes professional and romantic rivalry within the context of
academic and corporate Los Angeles and uses the old Spanish-descended
land-grant families as a backdrop.

The book appears on my website http://www.enemyweneed.com. The first
chapter is featured.

If you think your readers would be interested, perhaps you may
consider a book review of it in “The Journal of Cultural Conversation” ?

A review of this book will be appearing in the March issue of the online journal, “Primos Somos”. As well, “Border-Line Review” and “The Prairie Schooner” have also expressed an interest in writing reviews.

Please let me know what you think.

Most sincerely yours

Michael Zurowski (Dr.)
